Final Review

Overall- I would say that Instagram met both my criteria, as well as my expectations.

*Note: My criteria included:

  1. Something Fun
  2. Connection with my Friends!
  3. Window to the World
  4. FREE!!
  5. User Friendly
  6. No Pressure to “Post” in Order to be Involved

All of the criteria above were met (for further explanation please review previous postings) #criteria

Additionally- I would say that my expectations were met. Many friends of mine have ranted and raved about how amazing they think Instagram really is. And though I am not as addicted to posting content, I do enjoy scrolling through and looking at the various posts made by both the people that I follow (my friends) as well as others under the “Explore” tab.

The key question: Will I continue to use Instagram?

Yes and no. I don’t plan on using Instagram as actively as I have these past couple of weeks. I still do prefer to spend my free time scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed. However, I don’t expect to deleted my Instagram account. I may post occasionally throughout the year, but for the most part, I will primarily continue to use the interface to look at the content of others.

Introducing Instagram Stories

Today, we’re introducing Instagram Stories, a new feature that lets you share all the moments of your day, not just the ones you want to keep on your profile. As you share multiple photos and videos, they appear together in a slideshow format: your story.

With Instagram Stories, you don’t have to worry about overposting. Instead, you can share as much as you want throughout the day — with as much creativity as you want. You can bring your story to life in new ways with text and drawing tools. The photos and videos will disappear after 24 hours and won’t appear on your profile grid or in feed.

You’ll see stories from people you follow in a bar at the top of your feed — from your best friends to your favorite popular accounts. When there’s something new to see, their profile photo will have a colorful ring around it.

To view someone’s story, just tap on their profile photo. It’s easy to view stories at your own pace: tap to go back and forward or swipe to jump to another person’s story. If you want to comment on something you see, you can tap and send a private message to that person on Instagram Direct. Unlike regular posts, there are no likes or public comments.

Your story follows the privacy settings of your account. If you set your account to private, your story is visible only to your followers. However, you can also easily hide your entire story from anyone you don’t want to see it, even if they follow you. When watching your own story, swipe up to check out who’s seen each photo and video. You can even choose to feature a particular part of your story by posting it on your profile.

Instagram has always been a place to share the moments you want to remember. Now you can share your highlights and everything in between, too.

Instagram Stories will be rolling out globally over the next few weeks on iOS and Android. To learn more, check out the Help Center.

Instafriends

Admittedly, I was fairly hesitant sharing my post on Instagram with my friends. Yet one of my criteria was to be able to connect with friends through this social media platform. Now obviously this hesitation was quite irrational; so after a few days I decided that I would discretely let people know that I had an Instagram.

Biting the bullet I posted one of my Instagram posts on Facebook, through the Instagram app!

Soon, I had people liking my posts, adding me as friends, and even using the chat feature to contact me.

I appreciate the ease of being able to view my friend’s posts, as well as being able to independently just send them a post, as opposed to having a post be public for everybody to see.

Visible from my home screen, one can see how many “followers” they have as well as how many they are “following”.

The interesting thing about Instagram, is the people who you have no connection to in real life have the ability- should you so choose in your privacy settings- to follow you as well. For some people, their Instagram is more of a platform to keep in touch with friends. For others, it’s to post artsy photos for the worlds to see. For most, it’s a combination of the two.

Here is a tutorial I made that demonstrates how to customize photos and post them on Instagram!
